You make a good point, seeing as this is true, although I agree with you, I still think it's a good idea, even though it would never happen.

People are QQing about FoW being ugly and that more and more people are getting them now anyways. Lets just ruin the ecto price so that those who are rich lose money and QQ more. It makes me laugh how much people care about a game anyways. And if more people can get FoW armor, there goes that armor being an e-peen use as well. Its a win-win-win!!

I don't think anything new should be added, but I think the caps should either be raised or removed. As for ectos being "pretty much flawless and efficient", that kinda went out the window when the favour system changed and the price dropped by about 1k. A lot of people were QQing then, but they got over it, so why would a future price crash be any different?

It's too late in the game to introduce something that drastic to the economy. Some items are currently held as supplemental currency (ecto, armbraces, rare minis). If they no longer served that purpose, the value of them would plummet overnight. That's good for buyers, but for those of use who already have them in storage would lose tons of money. The people this is proposed to help would be hurt by it. The ones who stand to gain are the ones who don't have that kind of money very often anyway.
But this you guys already understand, and obviously don't care about. The other problems come in if something like another duping bug is introduced. People would dupe the hell out of these because the price is guarenteed by a merchant. If they dupe ectos or armbraces under the current system, those items lose value at a certian point as the economy is saturated with them. By fixing a price, you risk the entire economy. That is specifically why no items of significant value have fixed prices. AreaNet has worked hard to preserve that. Even when duping has occurred, the fallout was minimal compare to other games like Diablo where economic crashes were a daily occurrence. This is a big "IF", but should it happen, we would all be screwed over by it. Until you can plan for that contingency, I stay firmly in the "Hell No, Not Ever" camp.

It's supply and demand pricing. There is no need to change it with piggy banks or ecto's or armbraces. Study economics if you want to know what to do.
But for those who are stupid, it's quite simple. DO NOT BUY IT!!! That will force players to lower there prices until it sells, but as long as there is a demand, players will offer outragous prices, knowing that hacks have money to pay. It's called price gauging.
So in conclusion, the fact that FOW armor, and rare items are in demand, means that resouses used to make them will also be in demand, meaning the coutinuence of the high prices on those items, and their use as supplmental curency.

Nice theorycraft; none of that will work in GW, and hasn't for the whole ~3 years of it's life.

Well that would be true if the same ectos did not change the same peoples hands over and over and over.
Hording ectos in stacks does not help the econ, and UW farming for ectos is pointless considering the drop rate/time spent

I ridicule everyone who makes a "omg RL =/= GW so stfu" post. Yours is more civilized than most, but still incorrect.
Economics isn't about dollars or gold or oil cartel conspiracies. It's a study of people and the decisions they make. Ingame behavior is sometimes aberrant due to a lack of long-term consequences, but such circumstances comprise only a tiny fraction of overall economic involvement. The core thought process which leads to market activity is identical to that for any other part of one's life. Players constantly (even unconsciously) make rational price decisions in GW just as they would when shopping for groceries.

Trying reading the articles as to why "Green" weapons were introduced. It will give you a little insight as to why the 100k limit.
UW farming is pointless and has been for a while since you can make more gold per hour in other areas. Take your 100k to the temple of ages and covert it to ecto.
If you are hording ecto or armbraces I would suggest you start getting rid of it, once GW2 is released the price of rare material will most likely decrease since the number of players will decrease and so will demand (just like it has fallen since fewer people now play guild wars).

After all the cry babies stop complaining about their e-pen shrinking it might actually lead to a stable economy which would be a first for GW.

/signed, but only if they're hot neon pink and glow like chaos gloves. It's a good idea, and will clearly become the new backing of the gw economy;I'll feel sorry for those people who hoard ectos though.
